Fuel Prices Hiked Again in India Amid Global Crude Volatility; Political Row Intensifies

Petrol and diesel prices in India have been increased again by government oil companies, marking the second hike in four days. Petrol rose by 86 paise per litre and diesel by 83 paise per litre amid global crude volatility and rising West Asia tensions. Political reactions have intensified as Congress leaders criticize the government over inflation concerns and economic slowdown claims.

Petrol and diesel prices in India have been increased once again, triggering political reactions and renewed concerns over inflationary pressure on consumers. Government-owned oil marketing companies raised fuel prices on Tuesday morning, marking the second increase within four days.

According to the latest revision, petrol prices have been increased by 86 paise per litre, while diesel prices have gone up by 83 paise per litre. This follows a significant hike of nearly 3 rupees per litre implemented on May 15, making it the second major upward revision within a single week.

Officials attributed the continuous price escalation to sharp fluctuations in international crude oil markets and rising military tensions in West Asia, which are directly impacting domestic fuel pricing and increasing pressure on end consumers.

The latest fuel price hike has also triggered a political controversy. Congress PCC Chief Govind Singh Dotasara stated that fuel prices are expected to rise further in the coming days and alleged that the country is entering a phase of economic slowdown. He further referred to earlier remarks by Rahul Gandhi, claiming that fuel prices would rise after elections and have now increased as predicted.
